CHAPTER OF THE YEAR!
Tonkawa 99 Lodge,Capital Area Council announced Jan 7, 2012 the San Gabriel District Chapter of the Order of the Arrow is the Chapter of the Year.
This award is given to the most outstanding chapter in the Tonkowa Lodger. The Chapter with the highest participation at all Lodge, Section, and National events. To the Chapter that has excelled the most in all aspects of the Lodge Program. The Chapter that has gone above and beyond the call duty in giving cheerful service to the Council and Lodge.
This is the first time that our Chapter has won the award and we are very proud of the boys who worked very hard for this achivement. This could not have happened with out the support of our Chapter, Troop, and District leaders and the members in our district.
EXPLORE NATIVE AMERICAN CULTURE
Here's a great event that is open to ALL Boy Scouts and Venturers - whether they are in the Order of the Arrow or not.
You are invited to a weekend of learning Native American crafts and culture, getting hands-on experience with some of the best craftsmen in Central Texas. Activities include making chokers and breastplates, weaving, silverwork, building your own dance or ceremony regalia, or learning to sing/dance in the traditional native style. Plus, individuals or teams will learn ways to improve their ceremony, dance and craft skills.
The event is at Lost Pines Scout Reservation and starts at 6:30pm on Friday, February 10 and ends after our PowWow on Saturday, February 11. The cost is $10 for all meals and supplies.
