New Camp Youth Protection Policy
State Decision Affects 2012 Camping Season
The state of Texas now requires all camp staff 14 years and older plus all Scouting adults 18 years and older to complete a classroom facilitated Youth Protection Training course in order to attend or staff licensed Summer Resident and Summer Day Camps in Texas. This comes after a state review found that the BSA online course does not cover all the required material.
To satisfy this state requirement, our council will offer classroom facilitated Boy Scouts of America (BSA) Youth Protection Training several times, including camp staff development sessions and on the first day of all affected camps. The first classes will be offered at the Frank Fickett Scout Training and Service Center on these dates:
Wednesday, April 25 - 7pm Monday, April 30 - 2pm
This training will also be offered at the May 17th San Gabriel District Roundtable, 7 pm at First United Methodist Church in Georgetown.
CLICK HERE to see these requirements, and what's required of you in order to comply with these laws.

Registration for Powder Horn is now open. Powder Horn gives Boy Scout, Varsity Scout and Venturing leaders experience in a wide range of outdoor/high adventure activities. More importantly, Power Horn provides participants with valuable resources and contacts to assist them in delivering the promise of Scouting's high adventure - and keeping older Scouts interested.
During Powder Horn, participants "learn by doing" with expert consultants who demonstrate the skills required and explain where resources, such as equipment, facilities, guides, instructors, and certifications can be obtained. You will sample the activities yourself so you will know how much fun your crew, ship, team or troop will be able to have.
When: September 7-9 & 21-23, 2012 CLICK HERE to register

Tonkawa 99 Lodge,Capital Area Council announced Jan 7, 2012 the San Gabriel District Chapter of the Order of the Arrow is the Chapter of the Year.
This award is given to the most outstanding chapter in the Tonkowa Lodger. The Chapter with the highest participation at all Lodge, Section, and National events. This is the first time that our Chapter has won the award and we are very proud of the boys who worked very hard for this achivement. This could not have happened with out the support of our Chapter, Troop, and District leaders and the members in our district.
