CHAPTER OF THE YEAR!
Tonkawa 99 Lodge,Capital Area Council announced Jan 7, 2012 the San Gabriel District Chapter of the Order of the Arrow is the Chapter of the Year.
This award is given to the most outstanding chapter in the Tonkowa Lodger. The Chapter with the highest participation at all Lodge, Section, and National events. To the Chapter that has excelled the most in all aspects of the Lodge Program. The Chapter that has gone above and beyond the call duty in giving cheerful service to the Council and Lodge.
This is the first time that our Chapter has won the award and we are very proud of the boys who worked very hard for this achivement. This could not have happened with out the support of our Chapter, Troop, and District leaders and the members in our district.

News from new District Advancement Chairman |

Allow me to introduce myself. San Gabriel District Chairman Wilson Morris has asked me to become Advancement Chairman for 2012. I am new to the council and the district, so I'd like to go over some things with you and ask for your assistance.
First, if you have any questions or comments, do not hesitate to contact me.
Second, in order to help you with your advancements, we need to know how your unit is doing. There are two ways of accomplishing this. The first is on line. Click HERE for Instructions on how to do this. The second is by sending it to me via email. The council would prefer that you do this once a month. Posting your rank advancements and merit badges is especially important because when a boy applies for Eagle, the council office checks to make sure that he earned each rank and merit badge and when he earned it. If you do not report this information, he will have to jump some fairly high hurdles in order to verify this information. Although Posts and Ships have their own advancement program culminating in the Silver/Quartermaster Award, for most of you, boys under 18 may still work towards Eagle.
Third, we are reconstituting the merit badge counselor list for our district. If any of your adults are merit badge counselors, we would like to know their names, contact information (for the boys), what merit badge they counsel, if they are registered, whether they have taken Youth Protection Training within the last two years and if they wish their activities to be restricted to your unit or will be available to the district at large. From this and other information we will compile a list that Scoutmasters can use in helping boys find counselors. Finally, I need to know of any Life Scout who is working toward Eagle and the status of his progress, especially those whose Eagle projects have been approved or are under way.
Again, thank you for your attention. I look forward to working with all of you in the coming year.
Yours in Scouting
Michael Holmes
